Questions

Where is a 200 KB limit common?

Marketplace listing photos, job portal uploads, ID and document scans, and website forms. The form should say its limit.

Is 200 KB enough for a good photo?

For a screen, yes. A big phone photo may be scaled down to get there, and the page tells you when it is. Too small for a large print.

Is 1 KB 1000 bytes or 1024?

We count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, the way most upload forms do. So the copy lands under the limit either way you count.

Will my phone photo stay the right way up?

Yes. Phone photos store their rotation separately, and the tool applies it, so a portrait shot stays portrait.

What about a PNG with a see-through background?

JPEG can't be see-through, so those areas turn white and the page tells you. A WebP stays a WebP and keeps its see-through areas, except in browsers that can't make WebP (Safari), where it becomes a JPG with white in their place.

Can I drop a HEIC photo from my iPhone?

No, save it as a JPG first (Share, then Save as JPG, or switch Camera to Most Compatible) and drop that.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Nothing is uploaded. Your browser opens the image, shrinks it and saves the copy, all on your device. Passport photos and ID scans never leave it.
